103 years of Nordic quality! – This is how Unger works for an open and responsible value chain
At Unger, we develop and produce surfactants that are part of products used every day life, from home/personal care products to industrial cleaners. Since the establishment in Fredrikstad in 1922, we have built a business based on quality, competence and responsibility. Today, we combine our industrial foundation with a clear ambition to contribute to a more sustainable and responsible value chain. Locally anchored, with a global market where around 95% of our production is exported.
As an employer, Unger is committed to being a responsible, safe and inclusive workplace. Our ethical guidelines apply to all employees and also form the basis for the expectations we place on our partners. We work continuously to ensure a working environment characterised by respect, equal treatment and opportunities for development.
We have a broad supplier network for raw materials and packaging, and many of our collaborations extend over several decades. Trust, long-term perspectives and mutual responsibility are key principles in these relationships. At the same time, we work systematically to ensure sound working conditions and responsible practices throughout our value chain.
All our suppliers of raw materials and packaging are subject to a risk-based approval and follow-up process. This includes requirements for compliance with our ethical guidelines for suppliers, Supplier Code of Conduct.
As part of this work, we carry out annual due diligence assessments for sustainable business practices in line with the OECD Guidelines and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP). Through these assessments, we identify and manage risks related to potential negative consequences for people, society and the environment. This year’s due diligence report can be read here: Unger Due Diligence Assessments 2025.
